Lois Williams Hines
August 7, 1913 - November 21, 2013
Lois Williams Hines was born August 7, 1913, in Hopkins County, Texas. She died on November 21, 2013. Lois was the first of three daughters born to Grover Cleveland Williams and Dahlia Dortch Williams. Grover and Dahlia were from pioneer families in Hopkins County. Lois graduated from Highland Park High School in 1931 and in 1932 married the love of her life, Frank Holston Hines, who preceded her in death in 1986 after 54 years of marriage. First and foremost, Lois was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was Frank's partner in their business ventures, Hines Produce Company, Hines Nut Company, and the Sal-Ha-Sue Ranch, where they were active Santa Gertrudis breeders. Among her interests, she loved the beauty of nature and gardening, and enjoyed still life painting. Lois enjoyed reading and other intellectual pursuits. Lois and Frank were active members of First United Methodist Church in downtown Dallas throughout their marriage and she remained a loyal member until her death. Lois is survived by her three daughters: Sally Hines, Harriet Jeffers, and Dr. Susan Gwaltney. She is also survived by six grandchildren; the Reverend Jay Cole, David Hodges, Elizabeth Cooper, Kristi Pennington, Sally Mooter, Laura Murray and their families as well several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Sunday, November 24, 2013, at Sparkman Hillcrest. We will celebrate her life at 2 pm Monday, November 25, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 1928 Ross Avenue, Dallas 75201. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Community Services, the urban outreach of First United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
