
My Dear Poppa, 
 On May 4th, 2013 your mansion was ready and God said, "come on home son". I believe you were carried from the toils of this life to the arms of Jesus.
 Today I'll be thinking of you especially, my first ever Fathers day without you.
 It will be with a smile on my face (i'll try) but tears in my heart as so many memories flood my mind and overwhelm my heart! Such special memories of all the wonderful times we had together growing as a family, lot's of laughter, tears, discipline, yes & even occassional spankings (some of us more than others). . Always with love for each of us, and lots of wonderful home made meals from our sweet Momma. Of course, desserts optional-chocolate preferred by all.
 Poppa, you were a living example to us of how to live & love. Your dedication to Jesus showed in your daily life! I'm sure each one of us remember the most important lessons
 in life, among them we didn't leave home in mornings without family together for scripture reading & prayer. Loving God and serving people was what you were about as each of us kids saw you give and help people when you didn't have it to give. You were truly a man among men and I love you!
 I'll always remember one of the last things you said to me,
 "I love you sooo much, and i love all of my children so much and my grandchildren and great-grandchildren". 
 I know each of us (David, Bob, me, Charlotte, Larry & Suzie) all love and honor you!
 So, though I'll miss you terribly today, I know you are there loving Jesus, and seeing our family gone before!
 I'll always love you soooo much!

Uncle Lloyd, I have lots of fond memories of you and Aunt Aylene visiting our family through the years, and then later, when you were pastor of the church we attended in Oregon.  You were a big influence in my life.  I remember the time you and Aunt Alyene came through Phoenix on your way to David and Doris' home in Barstow, CA, and stopped by and asked my Mom if I could go with you.  It was a wonderful experience for this 14 year old girl, especially when you wanted to "stop and play a round of golf" on the way to the airport (that took me back home).  Thanks for the good memories, Uncle Lloyd, and I can't wait to see you and Aunt Alyene (and my Mom and Dad) one day soon in heaven.  I imagine you are all having a wonderful reunion. To my Poppy,
A sweet gentle man. He was very generous. A prayer warrior! Loved all his family. Greatest desire to see each one serving the Lord. Hwas in awe that at 95 years of age his all six of his children were living. The one that predeceased him was only eight months of age at death. He and mother spoke of Paul Thomas often even though the only one who new him was David and he was only a toddler.  I had the privilege of watching over my Pop and his second wife {mom Frances} for more than four years. During mom's illness dad also entered himself in Heritage Place Mesquite, TX so he
could watch over her and make sure she received the best of care.  when she passed on he lived one year and three months. He learned and remembered everyones name who cared for him in the home. He witnessed
everyday to someone.  He was the one to pray for all the meals at his table in dining room. (he had them all hold hands while they prayed.) This did keep any of them from eating until he was through praying. LOL  he was very serious about this. His greatest desire was to continue going to church
on Sundays. The second thing that enjoyed was coming over to see me, Kori and Charli after going to McDonald's for  a mcdouble, coffee and strawberry sundae. He always wanted same thing. Dad you werer always the best and taught us to be good people, ethical and moral. I expect your happiest times in life were when each of us asked the Lord and Savior into our hearts as individuals. Thank You for a christian home and upbringing!

Dear Family;
What an amazing legacy Uncle Lloyd & Aunt Aylene left behind. How blessed to have not one or two children in a real relationship with God thru Christ but to have all of your children knowing, loving & serving the Lord is something that we all should pray for.  Heaven is sounding sweeter all the time.

Papaw, you were greatly loved and your memory will continue to be a blessing in the lives of your family. I am so thankful for the very sweet moments we shared before you passed. Thanks for the stories about how you picked up golfing; I hadn't heard those before. I'll think of you every time I eat a bag of Skittles (which is often).

Papaw Lloyd, I will forever remember you for your great sense of humor and even greater love of Jesus. It is an absolute honor to be able to call myself your great-granddaughter. Thank you for your love and devotion to the entire Godwin family! Tell Mamaw Marie hello from us- we'll be seeing you both one day!

Papaw, to what has been said, I would add only this, that you were a great preacher. You had that "fire shut up in your bones" that still speaks of true anointing. And you preached some great sermons. And although well spoken, their power wasn't in eloquence. Your sermons were like your tee shots, wonderful in their simplicity. Where some excel in the windup, others in the outfits, you were different. A joke, a waggle; an easy swing and then a conk, and a ball in a gentle arc toward the pin. In half a century of watching you golf, I don't think I saw you hit more than a couple of bad slices. (Sorry to bring those up… had to keep it real!)

Best thing about golf is, you can hear the ball get hit. In your case, the "conk" belied an easy swing that delivered sometimes difficult truth. Everyone knew what you'd said, but you got it across so easy, we couldn't say "no." And because you were so consistent, you eventually got around to us all. Your best sermon always was, and still is, the life you lived right here in front of us all. Like those tee shots, straight and simple, and always with a chuckle and a "conk." And always aimed at the green.

Because you had so often shared your story with me, I have managed to hang in there through disappoinment and frustration. Because we saw you love the way you did, we can love now. Because we saw The Smile, which surely you didn't always "feel," we can smile now. Because you loved ice cream… but I digress.

And so your life speaks to me still, and will, I expect, until The Day. And until then, I'll be telling your story and doing my best to live, love and pastor like you did.

Head down, eye on the ball, best I can.

Mr. Godwin was such an amazing man and prayer warrior.  He spent most of his time talking about the love he had for his family.  I met a lot of his family members and what a testimony of the wonderful family he raised and the love they had for their dad.  I have been truely blessed to know Mr. Godwin and his wonderful family.I took some of the stories Mr. Godwin shared with me about his kids and would like to share them in the following poem.

In 1917 Mr. Godwin's story would start.
And at the age of 14 the Lord did win his heart.

Around that same time, his love story begins.
Aylene Marie Lovelady, her heart Lloyd did win.

At the King of Glory church, a love note was passed
He told her they would marry and that their love would surely last.

He traveled around the world, churches that he must start.
But it was his kids that were the ones who really held his heart.

David was the first and in Tijuana followed in his shoes.
Working for the Lord, not a soul they wanted to lose.

Bob was next and he too worked for the Lord
Finally retired in Austin with Vuna was never bored.

Then came Jeannie Girl, she likes to spread the “Good News”
And she likes to do it in SAS shoes.

Charlotte, his special middle girl, always took such great care
Of his every need she was well aware.

Larry, his last son, always has a song in his heart.
Traveling around America he's love of music to impart.

Donna Sue was the youngest, the baby of the lot.
He called her Susie, special attention she always got.

The Godwin's were together for seventy-one beautiful years
Then Maria went to heaven with much love and many tears.

Then he told Charlotte find me a wife,
So Francis became the second love of his life.

They shared life together, until she was taken home.
Four years together but now he was alone.

He spent his time at Bingo and praying with all his heart. 
But now he wants to see Heaven, he wants a new start. 

So all his family and loved ones have come from far and wide,
To share the end together to sing songs by his side.

So we're all gathered together to celebrate his life
He left this world on May 4th with only love and no strife.

If we believe in the truth, we know God's able,
we'll see Mr. Godwin again at the Lord's banquet table.

God blessed this family with such a great and loving leader.  Papaw, a girl couldn't have asked for a more precious Grandfather than you!! I am truly blessed and so thankful for the times I got to share with you. One of my most favorite memories was the summer me and Gary spent in Oregon with you and Mamaw....Best time ever! And about that sweet tooth, it seems you had plenty to share, as I too, have always said I got my sweet tooth directly from my grandpa! 
Miss you dearly Papaw ~ I love you...

Papaw, I'm so happy I was able to grow up not only having a grandpa nearby, but also having a great grandpa so close to me. You were so sweet and funny, and I loved visiting you and mamaw at your little apartment in San Diego. You were a joy, and I miss and love you very much.

Papaw,so grateful for the love and encouragement you always gave. I have to say, I think you handed down your sweet tooth to me, you know, just enough dinner to have plenty of room for dessert! So honored to be able to call you my "Papaw". See you again one day.

Papaw, I will always remember our fun days together when you and Mamaw lived in Dallas once before. Jessica and Jordan always looked so forward to seeing you. Just hanging out and hearing all your stories was always a treat.

So lucky you were my uncle.  You will be sorely missed by soooooo many.

Papaw I won't forget going to the dollar store with you & Mamaw, & getting a cookie at the mall. So glad you were about to meet your great-great grandchildren.

In 1972 Papaw gave me a silver dollar and said, "If you keep this for fifty years, I'll give you fifty more." I inherited my sweet-tooth from Papaw so I'm sure the hard currency was expected to be quickly converted to hard candy, but I guess I saw it as a challenge. I still have that dollar. And although Papaw was called away with only nine years to go, his promise was already fulfilled many times over throughout the years in love and ice-cream.

The story of Lloyd Wilson Godwin could never be adequately recounted in a fee remarks. he was physically slight of build, but spiritually he was a giant in faith. He taught us as children to memorize the Scriptures from the time we were mere babies. He was a man of profound devotion and powerful faith. He saw great and unusual healings and many were saved. He planted a church that is today one of the outstanding churches in the the Dallas area. Before he passed on a few days ago I had him once again lay hands on me and asked him to pray that the mantle of faith he had demonstrated would fall on my life and ministry. Dad will be greatly missed! - David Godwin

Uncle Lloyd, thank you for the wonderful memories you left me; the golf cart races, my cat and your luggage. You were such a joy and blessing. I can't imagine the celebration you're having now, and the ones we'll have when we see you again!

We will miss the golf, the great snacks you always brought when golfing and your incredible love, we miss you but look forward to the coming reunion

Papaw, I have been blessed to be a part of this great family ~ a family that started with you and Mamaw. Thanks for the love and spiritual comfort that you always provided. You will be missed and thought of often. Bill
