Linda was born on March 6, 1943, in Dallas, Texas, to Francis Leon and Eula Mae (Lang) Stephens. She was raised in Dallas and attended Mount Auburn Elementary, J. L. Long Middle School, Woodrow Wilson High School and later Bryan Adams High School where she was a Bryan Adams Belle for the school’s drill team. She went on to receive an Associate of Arts Degree in Business from Brantley Draughon Business College.
In her early career, she was an executive assistant for such companies as Blue Cross Blue Shield and Insurdata then chose to stay at home once she became a mother. She was a passionate artist at heart, always trying her hand at many different creative endeavors, including photography, pottery and woodworking. For the last 12 years, she served as the office manager for Propel Group, a local web design and creative services company.
In the 80’s, she found her home away from home in a hammock under the palm trees on her beloved cay in the Bay Islands of Honduras. For more than 30 years, she traveled extensively to the tropics, developing a deep appreciation for the laid-back Caribbean lifestyle. If she wasn’t in the islands, she was spending her time on the computer and playing with her latest and greatest electronic gadgets.
The thing that mattered most to Linda was her family. She found great joy when she reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Mike, in 2003 and married him for the second time on what would have been their 40th wedding anniversary. Better known as “GiGi” in her later years, Linda loved nothing more than to spend time with her two grandchildren in Austin. Not a month went by without a visit from dear GiGi.
Linda was preceded in death by her father Francis Leon and mother Eula Mae (Lang) Stephens.
She is survived by her husband Wm. Mike Scott of Dallas, Texas; her daughter Meredith Ann Morrison Schoch, her son-in-law Kevin Matthew Schoch and her grandchildren Matthew Morrison Schoch and Elizabeth Ann Schoch of Austin, Texas; her brother William F. Grant of Rowlett, Texas; and a niece and two nephews. She will be forever remembered as a funny, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
A memorial service honoring Linda’s life will be held at Grove Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas on Monday, February 13 at noon, with a reception to follow. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, February 12 from 2-5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the North Texas Food Bank, 4500 S. Cockrell Hill Road, Dallas, Texas 75236, www.NTFB.org.
