Larry passed away peacefully at his home in Dallas, surrounded by family the morning of Sunday, December 15, 2013. He will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend of 32 years Maureen, daughter Elizabeth , son and daughter-in-law Jason and Allison and their two children John and Matthew, all of Dallas and his sister Sherry Waldie Wright of Midland.
Larry was born in San Angelo, Texas on September 15, 1948 to H.S. and Margaret Waldie and spent most of his youth in Midland/Odessa. After becoming an Eagle Scout and graduating from Odessa Permian High School in 1967, he attended Texas Tech University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Upon graduation he worked for several years for Exxon Mobil and Aetna before joining Marsh & McLennan Companies in 1979. He spent over 30 years at Marsh during which time he considered his colleagues extended family. After retiring in 2010 he pursued his life-long dream of hitting the road. His travels with his wife included numerous international destinations as well as touring the United States in their motor home. His love of travelling extended not only to his motor home but also to his Harley on which he took many trips throughout the U.S. with his friends.
As much as Larry enjoyed fishing, his Harley and travelling in his motor home, there was nothing that he loved as much or, was as proud of, as his family. He was selfless in his pursuit of what he considered to be the “prime directive” of his life - to take care of his family. He was a man, father, and friend full of life, who always saw the good in people. He was known for his generosity of spirit, his kind heart and his sense of humor. Friends, colleagues and family will mourn the loss of the man about whom they frequently would say “he’s the nicest guy”.
A celebration of his life will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The USO at https://www.uso.org/Donate_in_Honor_or_Memory.aspx?LangType=1033, Faith Presbyterian Hospice of Dallas or the charity of your choice.
