Laura Kaufman Myrick, of Ashdown, Arkansas and recent resident of Dallas, Texas, was born in 1948 and died suddenly on July 7, 2016. She spent her last years caring for her husband Ed and they moved to Dallas so that her family could assist in his care. Laura spent her life in Lake Charles, Louisiana, raising her two children Beth and Michael Myrick, and devoting her time to her Real Estate profession, volunteering at Temple Sinai Sisterhood and Junior League in Lake Charles. She loved gardening and pets, travel with her kids, time with her many friends, and visits to Dallas to see her family. She led her family to a country cabin with no facilities when Hurricane Rita forced them out of their home, and they arrived several weeks later in Dallas as vagabonds with pets in tow and grateful for their escape. Laura attended Sophie Newcomb College (now Tulane) and got her Masters in Psychology where she met her future husband Ed. They returned to Ed’s home city where he was a successful attorney for decades until retirement. Laura will be remembered for her huge heart, always putting others before herself, and caring first for her parents who predeceased her (Ellen and Henry Kaufman), and then for Ed. She loved her kids and was deeply devoted to them. Laura is survived by Ed Myrick, residing at Walnut Place; daughter Beth Myrick and son Michael Myrick of Dallas; sister Joanne Kaufman Teichman, brother in law Charles Teichman, niece Alysa Teichman and nephew Jake Teichman, as well as Ed’s extended family in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and too many friends to count. A service and burial were held in Dallas July 11. The family requests that memorials in Texas be made to Laura’s two favorite causes, Food 4 Kids (North Texas Food Bank) and Dallas Holocaust Museum. In Louisiana memorials may be made to Temple Sinai or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana.
