Laura was born to the late Rufus and Florida Smith, in Washington D.C. on May 7, 1942. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age. The family later moved to Dallas, Texas where Laura received her education. She graduated from James Madison High School in 1960 and attended Texas Southern University.
Laura was united in Holy Matrimony to Jimmie Lee Day on February 8, 1969. From their union they raised 5 children: Tammye Smith, Jacqueline Wright (Rev. Michael Wright) both of Dallas; Sherre Day and Jimmy Day II (Keena) both of Nashville and Doron Day of Detroit. Grandchildren; Marquinn Landers, Michael Jr. & Joi Wright, Jimmy III and Jimari Day, Doron Jr. and Derion Day.
The family moved to Detroit Michigan in 1970. Laura was a faithful member of First Glory Baptist Church where she served on the Nurses Guild. She retired from the Detroit Board of Education as a Special Education Teacher Assistant for 33 years. Laura later moved back to Dallas, Texas where she reunited with the saints of God and joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. She worked diligently as a member of the Nursing Home Ministry and as a Girl Scout Volunteer.
Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Day; brother, Rufus Smith Jr.; and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Joe Hunter; her children, grandchildren, and a host of family and friends that loved her dearly.
