Born on January 21, 1944, in Pontiac, Michigan, Lance Kerr Murray was the first son of Charles Andrew and Marguerite Jensen Murray. He grew up in New Orleans and Picayune, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Michigan, where he met Judith Webb. Lance and Judith were married for more than five decades and were the best of friends. They traveled the world together, from Europe to the Far East to Canada to everywhere in between.
A graduate of the University of Michigan’s prestigious Chemical Engineering School, Lance rose to the top of his profession, ultimately managing thousands of engineers. By the time he retired as a senior executive at the Bechtel Corporation, Lance had been the Managing Director of the Los Angeles office, the lead PMC Directorate Engineering Manager for the CSPC Nanhai Petrochemicals Project in China, and the overall Project Director for the development and expansion of Shell’s major complex in Alberta, Canada.
Lance’s family and grandchildren meant the world to him. After he retired in 2009, he attended: 30 birthday parties, over 20 Christmas programs, every piano recital, ballet recital, talent show, over a thousand basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, football games and every first sacrament. He never missed a Christmas or a Thanksgiving and always was happy to help his grandchildren with homework.
Lance passed away on February 5, 2019, after a valiant battle with congestive heart failure. Lance is survived by his wife Judith Webb, his older sister Bonnie Christine, his younger brothers Robin Elo and Jamie Andrew, his son Todd Andrew and his wife Stephanie Hammer, his grandchildren Andrew Jensen, Mckenzie Christine, and Colin William, his niece (Danielle) and nephew (Christopher).
A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 10:00 AM. A private burial will take place afterward at Sparkman/Hillcrest Memorial Park.
