Kristin Lea Hazen made a profound impact on her family and friends (and really anyone she ever encountered) in her 32 years of action-packed life, before departing this earth on Friday, October 20th.
Kristin was born in San Antonio, alongside her triplets Katherine and Claire, on August 28th, 1991. After Rosie joined the family a few years later, the “Hazen girls” moved to Dallas where Kristin navigated the family to all the museums, parks, and restaurants that the city has to offer. After attending Highland Park High School, Kristin moved to Austin to attend The University of Texas and completed a degree in Journalism. Kristin flourished in Austin, making lifelong friends while she attended classes… if it wasn’t raining. After interning for the city of Austin her senior year, she started her career at Sparefoot and fell in love with the fast pace of tech startups. After a few years, she decided that her next big challenge was New York City, influencing (read as telling) her partner Adam that would be their new home.
Kristin always said she found her home in New York - not only did she not have to drive, but she could take in hundreds of parks, museums, art studios, shows, plays, and restaurants. There was never a dull moment when you were with her, and she befriended every single person she met, which in New York City is the ultimate accomplishment. Her smile lit up a room, she loved to host a party, and she claimed to be the matchmaker behind at least 3 marriages. Once she moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn, two new loves entered her life - mini Dachshunds Banana and Houdini. The three of them could be seen bringing along Adam to every stoop sale, farmer’s market, and coffee shop in Fort Greene. Many in the neighborhood coined her the unelected mayor of Fort Greene. Kristin’s spirit lives on in all those who had the pleasure of meeting her and witnessing her passion for life.
Kristin is survived by her husband Adam Seitzman (dogs Banana and Houdini), parents Scott and Priscilla Hazen, and sisters Katherine (husband Javi), Claire, and Rosie. She cherished being “Aunt KK” to her niece Lily and nephews Sam and Jake, and considered her many friends to be a part of her family.
A celebration of life ceremony will be on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn. Please RSVP using the following link: https://partiful.com/e/ae1XRFBocNvWGQnvWGuJ
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Kristin’s honor to the causes that were near and dear to her: the National Alliance on Mental Illness (nami.org), Fort Greene Park Conservancy (https://www.classy.org/campaign/in-loving-memory-of-kristin-hazen/c532883), or New York City ASPCA (aspca.org/nyc).
Kristin would have wanted everyone to remember - it’s okay to not be okay, always tell people you love them, don’t be afraid to ask the tough questions, and be quick to forgive. If you are struggling, reach out for help!
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com for the Hazen family.
