Of all his accomplishments in this life, he found caring for others to be his life's calling and true passion. Dr. Hackney had a medical career that spanned over 45 years. During this time, he had the honor of working at several facilities, touching countless lives along the way. Dr. Hackney was the Senior staff ER physician at Scott & White Medical Center from 1975-1989; an ER physician at East Medical Center Hospital from 1989-1992; an ER physician at Lubbock Methodist Hospital from 1992-1998; an Urgent Care physician at Scott & White Medical Center from 1998-2005; and had the prestigious role as Physician and Advisor to the Dean of Texas A&M University from 2005-2019.
He is survived by his wife, Sherri Johnstone Hackney; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Boyle, her partner, Pete Dowdle, and their son Sidney of Austin, Texas; his daughter, Kristen Hackney-Redman, her husband Johnny Heath, and their children, Christopher, Leah, and Spencer of North Carolina, and Kristen's son, Noah Williamson of Germany; his stepdaughter, Hailey Samperi, her husband, Ciro, and their daughter, Gianna of Floresville, Texas. Dr. Hackney was previously a widower. He lost his loving wife of 33 years, Mary Brumbelow Hackney, with whom he shares his daughters, Kristen and Beth.
Dr. Hackney was a brilliant, kind, and loving man who leaves behind a beautiful legacy in his family, friends, and colleagues.
