Kay was born on November 6, 1950, in Corsicana, Texas. She grew up in Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1969. Kay attended Lamar University, and graduated from the American Fashion College in Lucerne. Upon her return from Switzerland in 1974, Kay settled in Dallas where she met her husband, Sam. Kay was devoted to her family - her husband and her children were her pride and joy and the most important people in her life! Her ability to retain information and recall special dates showed her kind, caring, and loving nature, and exemplified her interest in every single person in her life. She had a laugh that was infectious and could light-up the darkest of rooms.
Kay had a fascination for researching genealogy, which again proved her love of connection and family. She also enjoyed gardening, and took a lot of pride in making the outside (and inside) of her home look beautiful, with complete attention to detail in everything she did.
Kay is survived by her husband Sam Estess of 49 years, and who was by her side until the very end. It goes without saying that Kay’s biggest achievement in life was raising her five beautiful children. She is survived by her daughter Charisse Sabath (Bruce), daughter Lindsay Kuykendall (Klint), son Trace Estess (Camila), daughter Abby Funnell and son Randall Estess (Keely).
Kay is also survived by her sister Janet Cloudt, her brother-in-law Kelly Northam, her sister- in- law Penny Estess Adams-Davis, her brother-in-law Sam Davis, and twelve precious grandchildren: Gabriel, Isaac, Gracie, Caleb, Alton, Archer, Sophia, Sammy, Charlie, Matilda, Avery and Randall Jr (Bubba). She is also survived by her wonderful nieces and nephews.
Kay was predeceased by her parents Geraldine and Charles Thompson, her sisters, Nancy Thompson and Susan Bailey, her brother-in-law Jim Cloudt, her brother-in-law Leslie Franklin Adams, and her nephew Jack Cloudt.
A visitation for Kay will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 President George Bush, Dallas, TX 75252, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
