Kathryn Louise Thetford passed away on Sunday November 17th, 2024 at 94 years old. She is now resting in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a beloved sister, aunt, public school teacher, world traveler, card player extraordinaire, and aficionado of fine dining. Eating with the church group was a highlight of the week.
Louise was born on January 30, 1930 to Alvin and Bernice Thetford of Lewisville Texas. She graduated from Lewisville High School as valedictorian and received her BA and MA degrees from North Texas State University. “Ms. Thetford” taught at several schools starting out in Graham, Texas and including one in Hawaii, but spent the majority of her 38 year-long career enriching and inspiring students in Dallas. We learned good grammar and how to properly enunciate our words whether we wanted to or not! She loved the Lord and her church (Colonial Baptist Dallas) and served as the secretary there for several years. Louise traveled the world with her friends and family and enjoyed many trips and cruises every year. She played cards (especially canasta and bridge) with her dear friends Pat Browning, Marilyn Mayfield and the late Ward English several times a week. Louise was a super competitive card player and focused on one objective: Winning! She also loved entertaining and going out to eat, celebrating birthdays for an entire month. She was an avid reader and sports fan with the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys being her favorite teams. She loved game shows and crossword puzzles. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she would host Sunday School Christmas parties at her house after decorating to the tee.
Her brother Alvin Kenneth Thetford preceded her in death. She is survived by her younger sister Linda Jo Graham along with many nieces and nephews. She touched many lives and we loved and will miss her dearly. A celebration of life will be held December 1st, 2024 1:15 PM at Colonial Baptist Church, 6459 Scyene Rd., Dallas, TX 75227.
