Barbara ”JUNE” Lomax McBee was born on July 2, 1926 in Longview, Texas, to Robert Garrett Lomax & Norma Ainsworth Lomax. She had four siblings: Ben Lomax, Robert Lomax, Norma Joel Lomax Killingsworth and Ella Lilly Lomax. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death. June graduated from high school shortly before her 15th birthday. She went to work as a clerk at Harmon Army General Hospital, Longview, Texas and later in San Antonio, Texas. She met Thomas “Tom” Gillie McBee through mutual friends. They were married in Dallas on July 10, 1948. They had twin daughters, Coral Louise and Carol Lee born on April 3, 1949 in Dallas, Texas. The girls were born with profound cerebral palsy and required continuous care. June and Tom cared for their beloved daughters at home until they died at the ages of 24 and 41, respectively. June took great joy in being a homemaker; making dresses for the girls, providing for their special needs, maintaining a welcoming home for friends, family and bible study groups, and cooking for, and providing support for Tom. June was an active member of Casa View Baptist Church until her health prohibited her from attending services. She was a devout Christian who died with a well-worn bible that she read daily for wisdom and comfort. Although confined for many years caring for daughters and later, husband, June had many friends at Casa View Baptist Church, and multi-generational friendships with many of her neighbors as well as her very special friend and helper, Krystal Velazquez, whom she thought of as a daughter. June was loved by many and is survived by her nieces and nephews and their families: Jane Bomba and Beatrice Horn (daughters of her sister, Norma Joel Killingsworth) and Delores Ella Thomsen, Norma Virginia (Ginger) Specian, Sondra Lohman, and Lucretia Alvarez (daughters of June’s brother, Robert Lomax). She also had nieces and nephews descended from Tom’s brothers and sisters. We are humbled at the beautiful life of June McBee and are grateful for God’s grace in her peaceful death. We know with absolute certainty that she is in heaven, reunited with family and friends.
