June Houser Chapman, age 93, passed away August 27, 2016, in Brenham, Texas. She was born December 12, 1922 in Royce City, Texas to John Horace Houser, a school principal and superintendent, and Louise Houser, a housewife. She was the only child. The family later moved to Floyd, Texas, where she graduated Valedictorian from her high school. She attended East Texas State University. In 1922, she married F. M. Chapman, Jr, her childhood sweetheart and life-long love. Soon after they married, F. M. left to serve our country during WWII. After the war, they moved to Dallas, where they raised their two daughters, Cathey and Cheri. In 1972, when F.M. passed away after a long illness, June returned to the workforce. She was employed by the U. S. Treasury Department as Area Manager for U. S. Savings Bonds. June was the first woman to hold this position in the State of Texas and one of the first in the nation. June was very active in her church and community. She was a member of White Rock United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Most of those years she taught Sunday School and she also served on the church board. June was also active in her community, especially the PTA and was President of the PTA City Council. June loved reading, cooking for her family, traveling and spending time with her many wonderful friends. Her greatest joy, however, came from time spent with family and her grandchildren. June was called home on August 26, 2016. She was greeted in Heaven by her husband, F.M. Chapman, Jr., her parents, and her daughter, Cathey Mallett. Her life and legacy will continue to be remembered and honored by her daughter, Cheri Padgett and her husband Patrick; son-in-law, Dr. Charles Mallett, III; grandchildren: John Mallett and fiancé Amber, Rebecca Mallett and fiancé Danny Cummings, Will Padgett and wife Jackie, Brian Padgett, and Luke Padgett and wife Kaitlyn. Our mother, grandmother, June Chapman, has inspired our family and others throughout her life and continues to do so today. She lived life generously, loved unconditionally, and trusted God completely. We loved her very much and will always miss her. Visitation will be 11a-12p, Saturday, September 3, 2016, with service to follow at 12p at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. Burial to follow at Grove Hill Cememtery.
