Judith Karen Scott was born October 13, 1949, in Graham, Young County, Texas, the only child of Nancy Florene Samford and Tommy Stanley Scott. She married James Adam Walker in 1970 and bore four children, Adam Scott, Rebecca Leigh, Timothy James and Mark Wesley. She was the fiercest champion of her children, all of whom she homeschooled, continuing even as a single mom. She retired after 19 years in customer service at the Dallas Morning News.
She loved morning coffee, good breakfasts, traveling, genealogy and her dogs, especially the Basset Hounds. She was a Christian from a very young age and was an active member of various churches throughout her life, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.
She enjoyed walking, and hiked the Grand Canyon. She never traveled outside the country, except twice to Mexico, but helped two of her children go on missions trips overseas. She was a great cook and left behind recipes that are enjoyed by all her descendants. She loved to hang Boston ferns on her porch, and the color pink was her favorite color.
For any event in life, large or small, she could always quote an appropriate song lyric. She loved to laugh at the funny things that happen in life, but frequently quoted her grandmother, “There’s a many a time I laughed to keep from crying.”
She loved to read books on psychology, history, biography, prayer and prophecy. In her latter years, as she went blind, Adam and Becky read to her.
She looked forward to the birthdays, graduations and games of her grandchildren, and did her best to attend them, even in her illness. Christmas was her favorite holiday.
She is survived by her four children; her grandson Timothy James Walker, Jr., and partner Jennifer Briones and their son Xavier James Walker (her great-grandson) and Tim’s stepdaughters, Gina Michelle Ross, Cybill Valerie Roberte and Zoë Marie Marguia; daughter-in-law Stacy Elaine Sala-Walker and her and Mark’s daughters: Skylar Elaine Sala Walker, Sienna Emery Sala Walker, Shyloh Elyse Sala Walker and Saoirse Ember Sala Walker. She is also survived by her half-brother Richard Samuel Smiley III and his son the IV; the four children of her half-sister Nancy Susan Smiley Freeman: Amy Suzanne Mercer Jones, Elizabeth Elaine Mercer Perigrino, Jennifer Florene Ahart-Mercer Barber and Wayde Michael Ahart, Jr. and their families; cousins, Charlotte Jean Berry Owens and Marvin Leon “Sonny” Berry and their families.
She was predeceased by both parents; her sister, Sue; an infant half-brother, Jimmy David Smiley, her aunts Mada Lee Samford Philips and Dorothy Isabell Samford Berry and cousins Linda Lee Philips Ridgeway and Carolyn Ann Berry Sessions.
