Judy, as she was known except when she was in trouble, graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas and then attended East Texas State University, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics. She began her long and dedicated career in education teaching in Houston before moving back to Dallas and teaching at Skyline High School. After earning her Master’s degree from ETSU, she became a career counselor to promote post-secondary career and college planning. She served as Student Services Specialist and then as Director of Superintendent’s Scholars, a collaborative program between Dallas ISD and the Dallas business community. In addition, Judy worked with the Dallas Rotary Club to provide Texas Scholars awards to qualifying DISD students.
Judy loved to travel, anywhere and anytime. Whenever a place was mentioned, Judy could give information about the best things to do and the best places to shop.
Judy also loved her family and friends and loved to cook and entertain for them. She was always looking for a reason to throw a party to celebrate the accomplishments of others or for the Town Creek Women’s Club, of which she was an active member.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bob Ahlfinger; her beloved husbands, Dick Bobbitt and Charlie Blanton; and her nephew, Kyle Ahlfinger. She is also preceded by her beloved Boston Terriers, Dujy, her first Boston who was named Judy sideways, Bandit, Checkers, Muggins, Jake and Sweet Pea, who was her Boston Terrier want-to-be.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Ahlfinger; granddaughter, Alison Leslie West, and her husband, James; her nephews, Randy Ahlfinger and his wife, Candace; Keith Ahlfinger and his wife Jody; Mark Ahlfinger, and his wife Kim; and Sandra Ahlfinger, wife of nephew, Kyle. She also leaves many great and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as many beloved friends.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 6th, from 2:00-4:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest, 7405 Northwest Highway, Dallas, followed by the Celebration of Life at 4:00 pm. Interment will be at 11:00 am on Monday, June 7th, at the Midlothian Cemetery, Midlothian, TX.
