Joyce Royal Martin died March 27, just short of her 83rd birthday, from cancer. She grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Wilmer Hutchins high school in 1948 where she was Miss everything, football queen, cheerleader and class favorite. She maintained a lifelong close relationship with her high school friends.
She was an active member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church and was loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Murphy Martin, who was a well-known reporter and news anchorman with Channel 8 in Dallas and ABC in NY. With the Ross Perot POW & MIA program, she visited several countries and met several presidents and numerous celebrities. Pretty spectacular for a little gal from Oak Cliff and Wilmer Hutchins.
Joyce had no children, brothers or sisters. She is survived by her cousins David & Peggy Epps, Jess Epps, Mary Epps, Sam Epps & Doris Tulles. Also survived by Stepson Mike Martin and his children Angela Simpkins and Clay Martin and their children.
Memorial service will be Sunday, March 30 in the Shipp Chapel at Lovers Lane Methodist at Inwood at Northwest Highway in Dallas at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to the American Cancer Society and wished everyone Happy Trails.
