Joyce Gallo

She was born on August 14, 1939 to Samuel and Maude Spender in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she was the older of two sisters. She traveled to New York in 1960, where she met and married Fred Gallo in 1962. Fred and Joyce were married for 54 years and had four sons.

They moved to Puerto Rico in 1968, where she raised her sons. She became assistant librarian at Wesleyan Academy, where she worked for 13 years. She is remembered fondly by teachers and students alike as a demanding but very caring teacher and mentor.

After retiring from Wesleyan, she enjoyed many years of visiting her sons’ families, where she was an integral and loving part of each of her grandchildren’s lives.

She is survived by her loving husband, Fred of Puerto Rico; son Paul and his wife Diana of Newton, MA; son Philip and his wife Claire of Kirkwood, MO; son Fred and his wife Joan of Lynn, MA; son Michael and his wife Tara of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Cristina, Richard, Taylor, Joe, Samantha, Fred, Catherine, Christian, and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Maude, and her sister Marlene.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 8, 2016 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com.
