Joy Sparks, age 88 of Lindale, Texas left this earthly home to join her God, family and friends on November 29,2023 in Tyler, Texas. She was born on August 20,1935 in Wichita Fallas, Texas to Nannie O and Thomas Earl Dunn. Joy was raised in Wichita Falls and attended Bowie and Regan schools.
She married at a young age and had the privilege (challenge) of raising 5 children. She enjoyed being a homemaker where she loved cooking and was an excellent seamstress. She was totally devoted to her family and was involved in PTA, Brownies, Boy Scouts, and the VFW. She loved to camp and travel. She was also an avid reader (especially history). She accepted the Lord as her savior at the age of 17 and was baptized in the Tennessee River in Guntersville Alabama. She was active in her church where she was a Sunday school teacher, secretary, teaching and helping in vacation bible school for church dinners. She also was a regular visitor and took the word of God to various nursing homes.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents Nannie and Thomas Earl Dunn; sisters Alice Emory, Beth Joann Dunn, Betty Joyce Dunn, Barbara Stewart; brothers Freddie Dunn, Douglas Dunn, Thomas RG Dunn, David Dunn, JM Dunn, Bobby Dunn.
Joy is survived by her children: Laquita (Larry), Tommy, Nancy Mae (Clifton), Marie (Buck), Jeremy (Kerrie). 8 grandchildren: Michael, Amyjo, Tamra, Ruth, Mariam, Brandy, Lacie, Joshua 13 great-grandchildren Alayna, Haiden, Miller, Morgan, Hunner, Skyler, Mary, Jemma, Autumn, Ava, Andrew, Alyssa, Easton and numerous nieces and nephews and a very special friend (for 60 + years) Mary Bodine.
A visitation will be held December 8,2023 at 9AM at Grove Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will immediately follow at Grove Hill Magnolia Chapel and the interment will be held at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
