On August 22, 2013 at her home in Plano, Texas, God whispered to Joy Lila Cline McLaughlin and called her home to be with Him. She was born December 3, 1916 on the family homestead near Elgin, Oklahoma to Henry Elijah Cline and Ida Ellen Taylor Cline who participated in the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889. She had three brothers, four sisters, and was the last surviving member of her family.
In 1943 she married Peter James ‘Mac’ McLaughlin, and they were blessed with two daughters. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Prior to moving to Plano, Joy lived in Lubbock, Texas where she was a realtor, member of ABWA, and active in the Baptist Church. Those who knew her will remember her beautiful smile, friendly spirit, love of family and passion for bridge.
She will be missed by her daughters JoAnn Brooks of Plano, TX and Sharon Budnick (Bill) of Branson, MO; grandsons Pat Brooks (Amy) of New Braunfels, TX and Chris Brooks (Ashley) of Dallas, TX; great grandchildren Ava and Cameron Brooks of Dallas, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013, 10:30am at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, TX.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
