Joseph Versean Smith

Joseph (Joe) V. Smith was born June 1, 1974 in Atlanta, Ga. He was the youngest child of T.W and Ernestine (Tina) Smith. He attended Atlanta Lighthouse and accepted Christ at an early age. He participated in play’s, programs, and youth groups while attending church with his mother. He was a kind hearted spirit.

Joe was an all-star athlete playing basketball, football, track, and wrestling. He attended Stone Mount High School and began his college career as an academic/athletic student at Clark Atlanta University. As a computer science student, he spent many hours in the computer lab where he met and began dating Francescah. Joe transferred to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff after a motivational call from former coaches. He would go on to set records on the football field and on the basketball court. In the classroom he excelled in computer programming and physics.

Joe returned to Atlanta, GA and began working for Red Hat Linux as a program tester. After a brief time in GA, he moved to Texas to pursue career aspirations in the technology field. He reunited with long-time sweetheart Francescah and the two were married in May of 2002. From that union came their son Silas.

Joe worked as an IT Infrastructure Contractor for Toyota Motors, Novartis Pharmaceutical, Dell System, and Neiman Marcus until he successfully landed at PepsiCo. As an IT Global Governance lead, he supported teams in risk management and compliance solutions for technology projects. He enjoyed Coaching Basketball, playing dominoes, and singing to his dog Ranger.

On April 16, 2023, Joe Departed this Life after having a Medical Emergency while driving. He was preceded in death by his father T.W. Smith and his sister Sherrie Bivins. In his passing he leaves to cherish his memory; a Wife Francescah, his Son Silas, his dog Ranger; Mother Tina Smith, Brothers William Smith, John Smith (Caroline), Sidney Smith, and Tim Smith, Father-In-Law Robert L. Sandles, Sister-In-Law LaJuannah Hills (Donald), Brother-In-Law Robert C. Sandles, loyal Friend Sam Simmons, a host of Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and Friends.

A visitation for Joseph will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232.

A funeral service will occur Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 6300 South R.L., Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232.

A graveside service will occur Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Laurel Land Mem Park - Dallas, 6300 S. R.L. Thornton Frwy., Dallas, TX 75232.
