Beloved husband, grandfather, and friend, Joseph Holmes Flaig, Jr., passed away May 29, 2019.
He was 87 years old.
Joe was born February 3, 1932, at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas. After graduating from
Jesuit High School, Joe attended Notre Dame University as a freshman when he was sixteen
years old. He later transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of
Phi Delta Theta fraternity, graduating in 1952 with a BBA degree and in 1956 with an MBA
degree. Following graduation, Joe served in the US Air Force, and upon release, returned to
Dallas and entered into the cottonseed-oil business with his father. He was passionate about
jazz, cars and photography.
Joe was a member of the Terpsichorean Club and served the Idlewild Club as president in 1959.
He was very fond of his debutante class, arranging reunions from time to time. A gentleman in
every way, with a smile and a twinkle in his eye, he will be sincerely missed by all who knew
him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Holmes Flaig, Sr., and Vera Harrington Flaig;
and his sister, Frances Flaig Norsworthy Neale. He is survived by his wife, Frances Ilene Martin
Flaig; son, Bryan Joseph Flaig; daughter, Louise Flaig Emerick; and grandchildren, Frances and
Harriet Flaig Emerick, and Zoie Josephine Lillo Flaig; and newphew, Thomas W. Norsworthy, Jr.
