Jose Sanchez Monroy, 84, passed away January 15, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. He was born July 5, 1938 in Chamacuaro Guanajuato, Mexico to Emeterio Monroy and Trinidad Sanchez. Jose was raised in Edinburg, Texas and graduated from Edinburg High School in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart, Rachel Alfaro at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Edinburg, Texas in 1959 and the couple had six children.
He proudly served in the United States Armed Forces where he served as a power equipment specialist. During his time in the military he received awards in Sharpshooter (rifle) and Expert (carbine). He was honorably discharged in 1962.
He moved to Dallas, Texas then settled in Mesquite, Texas in 1964. Joe and his family attended St. Pius X Catholic Church, Dallas, Texas. He began working with Almcoe Refrigeration in 1966. He began his career with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in 1974 during which time he acquired his engineering certification from Texas A & M University and became Chief Engineer until his retirement in 2002.
He became very active in his community as he achieved the Sublime Degree of Master Mason with the Shriners International within the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas, J. Slayter, Lodge 1198 and became a Noble of the Mystic Hella Shrine, Garland,Texas, Lodge 1216, in 1991, respectively. He quickly rose to 32nd degree Mason, became a lodge Master, and a Scottish Rite Mason.
He will be remembered for being a great story and joke teller, comedian, and being social. He never met a stranger! He enjoyed reminiscing about military days, his career, and his domestic and international travel with Rachel and family. He enjoyed going to casinos and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emeterio and Trinidad Monroy; sisters, Maria E. Dearing, Auxilia M. Guerra, Manuela Monroy, and grandson, Taylor Leicht. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Monroy; sister, Maria M. Tharp; brother, Nicolas X. Monroy; six children, Margaret Leicht, Deborah Martinez, Sandra Colvin, Audrey Medrano, Joseph Monroy, Mark Monroy; nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

A visitation for Joe will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a 6pm Rosary at the Gonzalez Funeral Home and Crematory, 3050 N. Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX 75247. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, 3050 N Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX 75247. Interment 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
