Jon proudly served his country where he was the recipient of multiple Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his efforts during the Vietnam war. Staff Sargent Jon Katz spent a total of 12 years with the Army.
After his service with the Army, Jon went on to become a master electrician. He went to work for his farther, Eddie Katz.
Then in January of 1983, Jon married the love of his life, Cindy. For 40 years they have been side by side.
In the late 1980’s Jon and Cindy moved to Lake Dallas, where Jon made a career change. He worked in the Lake Cities area as a building inspector, volunteer fireman/EMT, and Fire Marshal. This midlife career change led him to peace officer school at Texas A&M. He then worked with the Hickory Creek Police Department for about five years, and eventually with the Tarrant County Sherriff’s Department as a deputy.
Some of the hobbies Jon enjoyed most were fishing, bowling, smoking his pipe or a good cigar, traveling with his friends, and being with family.
Jon was predeceased by his father, Edwin “Eddie” Katz; his mother, Rachel “Ray” Katz; his daughter Chris Ray; his stepmother, Lynn Katz; and his stepbrother, Alan Rosen.
He is survived by his siblings Barbara, Betsy, Judy, Jeff, and Ronnie; along with his wife, Cindy; his children Brian, Blake, and wife Brandi; and Heather, and husband Ken. He is also survived by several grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
