Johnnie Heath was born to the parentage of Cotee and Johnny B. Heath on April 16, 1944, in Dangerfield, Texas. Johnnie was an avid lover of life. Through church and worship, she received Christ at an early age. She later moved to Dallas, Texas, where she obtained her formal education from Dallas Public Schools and El Centro College. Johnnie married Lindorf Hood, Sr. in 1961, and from that union five children were born. Johnnie later married the love of her life, Christopher C. Smith, on February 14, 1984. During this union, she raised six grandchildren. Johnnie was always known for her beauty and love of fashion. In her youth, she was a model for Joske’s, and worked many years for Foley’s Department Store. She was later employed as a food service manager at Highland Park Cafeteria and retired in 1999. Johnnie was loved by many people. She was always prepared to feed anyone, and once you ate at her table, you were family for life. Johnnie loved family, shopping, decorating, going to the casino, playing Super Mario Bros., and watching her favorite TV shows: Golden Girls and Frazier. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Cotee and Johnny B. Heath; her sister-in-law, Shirley Heath; and brother-in-law, Robert Busby. Johnnie leaves to mourn her husband of 32 years, Christopher C. Smith; her siblings, Calvin Heath, Clifford Randle, Jr. and wife, Claudette, Evelyn Thompson and husband, Felton, and Gloria Busby all of Dallas, Texas; her very special friends she considered as sisters, Norma Ross, Linda Davis, Nettie Mitchell, Celestine Amos and Queen Esther Preston; her children, Glenda Simmons and husband, Willie, Lindorf Hood, Jr., Andre Hood, Anthony Hood, and Donald Ray Hood and wife, Michelle, all of Dallas, Texas. Johnnie’s legacy continues with the six grandchildren she raised: Melody Hood, Deidre Hannible and husband, Kenneth, Kiyana Hood, Casey Hood, and Stacey Hood all of Dallas, Texas. She raised the sixth grandchild, Crystal Smith, as her own. Johnnie loved and adored a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
