Growing up in Fort Worth, he attended Paschal High School, two years at TCU and enrolled at The University of Texas. His education was interrupted by his service to the Country during WWII. He achieved the rank of Lt. Sr. Grade in the U.S. Navy, serving as the combat intelligence officer aboard two destroyer escorts assigned to convoy duty in the North Atlantic.
After the war, he returned to Austin with his wife Marcellene. He graduated from UT Law School in 1947. John moved his family to Dallas where he was a successful trial lawyer for 50 years.
John and Marcellene raised four children in their Highland Park home of 62 years. Joining the church in 1948, John remained a loyal member of Highland Park Presbyterian, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Elder, and Trustee.
John is survived by his wife, Marcellene Snorf Wilson, his children and spouses, Robin and Dick Lea of Atlanta, Georgia, Marcy and Steve Sands of Dallas, Johnny and Chris Wilson of Dallas, David and Debbie Wilson of Tyler, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He is remembered by his family for the fine Christian example he set, and by the love he so freely shared. Surely his was a life well lived.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd, Dallas, TX 75205.
