Ware, John Roscoe, M.D., died in his home on May 3, 2017, after a prolonged illness. A much-loved son, brother, uncle, and friend, John was born in Dallas on June 17, 1952, to Dr. Elgin Willis Ware, Jr., and Frances Golden Ware.
He attended Bradfield School, where he developed a close circle of life-long friends, and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1970. John next went to Emory University and then the University of Texas at Austin, earning a BA with Honors in 1975. In 1977 he was awarded an MA in Biology from Southern Methodist University, and in 1981 obtained his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Science Center. John fulfilled his lifetime dream of becoming a urologist when in 1987 he completed his residency training at Southwestern Medical School under the direction of Dr. Paul Peters, whom he greatly admired. John was passionate about medicine and devoted to the wellbeing of his patients, practicing with the Urology Clinics of North Texas for almost 30 years. John’s other passion was music, and as a bassist he performed with various bands, an avocation that provided many hours of delight and a wealth of wonderful memories. He also took great pride in being a native Texan, and relished being a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas. In his younger days John was an avid hunter, canoeist, and sailboat enthusiast. At Emory he joined the Kappa Alpha Order and during his professional career became a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology and an Associate Clinical Professor of Urology at Southwestern Medical School.
John is survived by his brother, Dr. David Lochridge Ware of Galveston, Texas, his sister Bettina Ware Hennessy and her husband Dan Hennessy of Dallas, Texas, and nieces and nephews Mary Elise McGowan and husband John; Fr. Daniel Hennessy, L.C.; Dr. Michael Hennessy and wife Fallon; Catherine Anne Markert and husband Patrick. John loved to share jokes, play games, and tell stories with his great-nieces and great-nephews John, Beth-Anne, Catherine, and Caroline McGowan; Madelyn and James Hennessy; and Christina, Michael, and Charlie Markert.
The family wishes to thank John’s closest and dearest friends who rallied around him when he was most ill. In addition, thanks go to the wonderful care-givers of the Visiting Nurse Association, who helped John maintain his unique sense of humor until he departed this life.
A memorial service and reception are scheduled for Monday, May 15 at 10:00 AM at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225.
