John J. Murphy with a twinkle, fine sense of humor, and an uncanny knack for a deal passed away peacefully in his home in Dallas, TX, surrounded by family on May 1, 2015. Jack led an extraordinary life, being equally rich in work and love. He brought his practicality and engineering background to a lifelong career at Dresser Industries, traveling the world forging business relationships with Russia, Japan, Saudi Arabia and many other trading partners of the U.S. As Dresser's youngest CEO he was a catalyst for change that shaped Dresser into a global oil services giant. He is now together again with his wife Louise John Murphy and joins those who preceded him: his father and mother, John Joseph and Mary Walsh Murphy, his daughter, Kathleen Murphy Bell, his sister, Ellen Murphy Forness, and his brother, Robert Murphy along with his wife Carol. He was born in Olean, New York, on November 24, 1931; a place he continued to return to throughout his life. Summertime there, on his boat in Eleuthera, Bahamas, and on golf courses around the world were his most cherished places. He served on over a dozen corporate and non-profit boards and worked to increase quality educational opportunities for all. He is survived by his children Karen and Lou Rochelli, Patricia and Andy Smith, and Michael Murphy; his brother Daniel Murphy and his wife Sarah; his grandchildren Heather, Blaine, Scott, Mandy, Meredith, Mary Elizabeth and John; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 4:00-6:00pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home on Northwest Highway. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 4 at 2pm at Christ The King Catholic Church. The family would like to express gratitude to the wonderful caregivers over the past couple of years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the John J. Murphy Family Scholarship care of the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, 120 N. Union St., Olean, NY, or online at: www.cattfoundation.org.
