He was born on September 4, 1991, the youngest of three children to Peter Elliott and Cile Doran McCormick. John was a lifetime resident of the Park Cities, member of the Boy Scout Troop 125,
attended Highland Park High School and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska High School. John loved camps Ozark, Pinecove and Rockmont.
He was working on a Computer Animation Graphics degree in San Antonio and was beginning a promising career in this field when his life was cut short by a tragic auto accident.
John was raised in a loving and supportive Christian family and he had a passionate zeal for life.
He was that rare person who had an artistic talent combined with formidable technical intellect. He used these gifts in college to create computer games with incredible animation and originality.
John’s other passions included snow boarding, wake boarding, horse-back riding, hunting, camping, scuba diving, tennis, and tinkering with all things electronic. But what he loved most was flying his 150mph remote control airplanes that had internal colored lights so they looked like flying Christmas trees when he flew them at night. John was in his element when his plane accomplished maneuvers he had designed and worked so hard to create.
John’s legacy will be his warm, open personality and innate kindness to people from every walk of life. He accepted all people for who they were without judgment. He had a trusting heart, a fearless spirit, and an irresistible twinkle in his eye. John won the First Is Third award which is the overriding theme of Camp Ozark's spiritual emphasis: in order to "win" in our lives, we must place God first, others second and ourselves third. His love for his family was unsurpassed. His mother is comforted by the memory of how often John would spontaneously hug her and say “Mumsy, you’re great”. He knew how to share in all the joys of life and never shied away from expressing his love. The pain of his early passing should not overshadow the fact that he lived life to the fullest, loved with all his heart, and embraced each challenge presented to him. His spirit will live on in all those fortunate enough to have known him. Love not only begets love, but it transmits strength, and strength is what John had plenty of.
We know John is in heaven with our Lord - snow board in one hand and the biggest remote control airplane in all of heaven in the other, still twinkling.
John is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ed and Eugenia Doran. He is survived by his parents, his brother Matthew, his sister Claire, his paternal grandparents Balene McCormick and Sanford and Barbara McCormick, aunt Carolyn McCormick and uncle Byron Jennings and nephews Cooper and Skylar Jennings, uncles Eddie and Bill Doran, and his girlfriend Kara Scott.
