John Clifton Lewis, a long time Dallas resident, passed away on February 11, 2012. John was born on December 20, 1925, in Jefferson County, Oklahoma. John entered the US Navy V-12 officers training program in 1943 at the age of 17 and was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy in 1945. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1948. He joined the Proctor and Gamble Company in June, 1948, serving in a variety of sales and management positions, the last being District Sales Manager. He retired in 1983 after 35 years of service. Since that time, most of his life involved volunteer work focused primarily on Highland Park United Methodist Church serving as chairman of various boards and committees. He is preceded in death by his parents Bryan and Bessie Lewis, sister Mildred Lewis, son John Warren Lewis, and his wife of 39 years, Margaret Louise Lewis. He is survived by his sister Peggy Edgar, brother-in-law Less Edgar, son Michael Lewis and granddaughter Rosemary Lewis, son Craig Lewis, daughter-in-law Debi Lewis, grandsons Bryan Lewis, Nathan Lewis, Caleb Lewis, and granddaughter Alexia Lewis. He has two grandsons from son John Lewis, John and Craig Lewis, and nieces Kay Arp and Myrna Ward. Other surviving loved ones include Barbara Reinhart, Jennifer Ashcraft, Matthew Ward, Lyndsey Ward, Mike Arp, Craig Ward, Mary Stramel, and Sandra Lewis. John will lie in state Thursday, February 16, 6-9 p.m., at Sparkman/Hillcrest and the service will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest on Friday, February 17 at 2:00 p.m.,Rev. Bill Smith, officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of choice, in lieu of flowers.
