John Hearne, 70, of Rowlett, TX, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, counselor and friend to all that knew and loved him.
He was born on June 2, 1942 in Dallas, TX to Herschel M. and Mary Catherine Grimes Hearne. John was born into the cradle rolls of East Dallas Christian Church, his first and final church home. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1960, attended Texas Christian University, and later served as a naval officer on the USS Kearsarge during the Vietnam War. John was a lifelong educator and served over 25 years as a high school counselor at Garland High School. He retired in 2000 to enjoy time with family, volunteer leadership at his church, and travel with his wife Marilyn.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years Marilyn Hearne of Rowlett, TX; his children Randy, Allison, and Robert; his granddaughter Briley; his brother Martin and his wife Linda and their children Jeffrey and Jennifer; and extended family.
A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at East Dallas Christian Church, 629 N. Peak St., Dallas, TX with Rev. Deborah Morgan-Stokes officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX.
