Mr. Hall graduated from Highland Park High School (Class of 1942), attended the University of Texas, the University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee, and received his Bachelors of Laws degree from Southern Methodist University.
He practiced civil trial law for 44 years prior to retiring in 1993, and tried many lawsuits throughout the state of Texas in state and federal courts.
Until his retirement, he was named in two areas of practice in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward and White), was a Research Fellow in the Southwestern Legal Foundation, and a Master of the Bench in Dallas Inn of Court LVI. He was also a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
At the time of his retirement, he was senior partner at Strasburger & Price where he practiced for 39 years. His love and admiration for Henry Strasburger, Hobert Price, and Phil Kelton inspired him greatly.
During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations with the 112th Calvary Regimental Combat Team. A short time before the Japanese surrender, he was one of those selected from combat units to guard General Douglas MacArthur.
Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion Martin Hall; daughter Ellen Hall Taylor; son John H. Hall II, daughter-in-law Katherine Hebert Hall, eight grandchildren; sisters Mrs. Robert D. Carter and Mrs. Robert H. Pentz; and brother Charles W. Hall. He is preceded in death by sisters Mrs. Ernest C. Arbuckle, Mrs. H. Clark Etheridge, and brother Mr. Albert B. Hall, Jr.
