Internationally known for his developments in pain management and spine imaging, Dr. Fisk will be greatly missed, although his contribution to the medical profession will prolong his legacy. Sought after as a physician for his expertise, gentle bedside manner and clever sense of humor which comforted his patients, his true passion was in education, traveling the world to lecture on his progressive practices advancing the medical community.
Born on March 24, 1948 in Flandreau, South Dakota, John found his home in the Pacific Northwest as soon as his family pulled up in their matching green Pontiacs in their move from Illinois in 1957. Raised on Vashon Island and receiving bachelor and doctoral degrees from the University of Washington, and completed his Neuro Residency in Hartford, Connecticut. He served 2 years in the army at Fitzsimmons medical hospital in Colorado. It was not uncommon to see John demonstrating his UW passion by sporting the purple and gold. An avid outdoor enthusiast, John loved hiking, camping, skiing, and boating whenever he could, introducing all of his children to the joys of nature. His varied interests also included Japanese gardening, cooking, classic cars – jaguars in particular, and more recently, classic wooden boats.
Mourning his loss and celebrating his life are four siblings, Barb, Dave, Susie, and Richard; five children, Debora, Matt, Ashley, Ethan, and Pierce; four grandchildren, Derek, Braden, Katelyn, and Beckley; and countless other family, friends and colleagues.
