John F. “Jack” Davis Jr., a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Easter morning on March 27, 2016 at the age of 86. His wife of 65 years, Jean Moeller Davis, whom he described as the “love of his life,” was by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Davis and wife, Margaret, of Monroe, La. Jack attended Jefferson Military Academy in Natchez, Miss. and later graduated from LSU with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and an ROTC graduate. He was a passionate LSU Tiger fan – particularly the baseball team, where you could often find him cheering on the first base line Jack was also an Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War, where he was stationed at Cape Canaveral, Fla., serving as a radar specialist. He left the military with the rank of Captain. He then worked as a chemical engineer for DuPont, Borden Chemical, MonoChem before retiring from his career as an engineer. His proudest professional achievement followed, when he started his own business, the Davis Sales Co. Davis Sales has remained in business since 1982, serving Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Jack was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by his family and friends, but his legacy and humor will live on for many generations to come. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, two daughters, two daughters-in-law, and two sons-in-law: John F. Davis III and wife, Leah, of Dallas, Texas; Ross E. Davis and wife, Lynette, of Mandeville, La.; Bert L. Davis of Baton Rouge; Meg Davis Bittner and husband, Joe, of Dallas, Texas; and Lauren Davis Roberts and husband, Stuart, of Birmingham, Ala. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Beau Davis and his wife, Jennifer, Drew Davis and his wife, Jamie, and Josh Davis of Dallas, Texas; Jessica Davis Mozer and her husband, Matt, of Dallas, Texas, and Margaret Davis Pate and her husband, Bradley, of Birmingham, Ala.; Ross Davis, Jackson Davis, and Walker Davis of Baton Rouge; Davis Bittner, Ellis Bittner, and Lauren Bittner of Dallas, Texas; and Jack Roberts, Rosemary Roberts and Evelyn Roberts of Birmingham, Ala. Also survived by three great grandchildren: Audrey Pate, Hadleigh Davis and William Davis.
