John Edward Cook passed away on February 24, 2023. He was born on April 1, 1937 to Elmer and Dorothy Cook in Berea, Ohio. He attended schools in Nova, Ohio. After graduation he joined the Air Force Reserves and served in Mansfield, Ohio and Amarillo, Texas. He moved to Dallas and attended Rutherford Business School, where he became a computer programmer analyst. He met his wife Ona while working at Baylor University Medical Center. They were married on November 9, 1968, and were blessed with 2 sons, Jason and Philip.
They attended church at Trinity Lutheran in Dallas and later transferred their membership to Bethel Lutheran. He worked for Atlantic Richfield Company, which later became British Petroleum (BP) for 26 years. He retired in 1993.
He enjoyed activities with the Horseless Carriage Club of America, where he frequently drove the ‘trouble truck and trailer’ while on antique car tours. He was also a member of the North Texas Antique Tractor and Engine Club. He enjoyed working on antique tractors and equipment and participated in annual club shows. He could never quite leave the farm and continued to “play farmer’ at the Esbenshade Farm in Oklahoma. He also enjoyed square dancing and clogging.
Survivors include his wife Ona, son Jason and wife Kristen, grandchildren Evelyn, James, and Peter of Crowley, Texas and son Philip and wife Rebeka of Shawnee, Kansas and grandchildren, Thomas, Noree, and Evan. He is also survived by a brother, Donald Cook in Columbus, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Allen, one sister Barbara and one grandchild Hannah.
