John was born on January 24th, 1935 to A.C. and Agnes Boykin in Talty, TX; the eldest of three children.
He attended Jesuit High School, where he received both the "Bishop Lynch Award" from the president and faculty, and the "Best Athlete Award" selected by his senior class. He was very active in the alumni association and a coach. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2019 was given the "Gold Ranger Award."
He attended St. Benedict's College in Kansas and SMU in Dallas. He had a long career in engineering, owning his business, Electronic Flo-Meters Inc.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beverley; son, Shean Boykin and wife Julie; daughter, Shannon Coleman and husband Terry; and daughter, Colleen Dean; sisters, Elaine Gibson and Rita Hutchison; his beloved grandchildren, Megan Rivera, Regan White, Carlton Boykin, Jamie Burkett, Amanda Wilson, Madeleine Guy, Jonathan Guy, Scott Clark, and Steven Clark; and great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Colin, Ryan, Phoebe, Penny, Piper, Chance.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Kevin Boykin.
