John L. Anderson, Jr. was born on November 19, 1956, in Houston, Texas to Lillie and John Anderson, Sr. He graduated from David W. Carter High School in 1975. He united with the Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in 1983 under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Mack T. Flemmings, Sr. He married Ruth Anderson on September 29, 1984, and they had two daughters. His children remember him as a driven and dedicated father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. John’s hard work and dedication lead him to a fulfilling career as a mail handler with the United States Postal Service where he served diligently for thirty years. Throughout the course of his employment he was recognized for his outstanding work ethic and dedication by his colleagues and supervisors. He was known as a kind and benevolent man, often donating his time and accrued sick leave to those in need. John was a devoted sports fan, particularly the Dallas Cowboys, as well as an avid history and political enthusiast. John Anderson entered into eternal rest on April 5, 2017, at the age of sixty. He is preceded in death by his father, John Anderson, Sr. The memories of John’s life will forever be cherished by his mother, Lillie Anderson of Dallas, Texas; two children, Ashley and Melissa Anderson of Dallas, Texas; and two siblings, Glenn Anderson (spouse, Karen Anderson) and Sandra Williams, both of Dallas, Texas; niece, Tyra Williams; two nephews, Brian Anderson and Timothy Anderson; two uncles, Curtis Lee Godfrey and Ernest Lee Godfrey; and a host of cousins and friends.
