On Sunday, June 30, 2019, in a tragic airplane crash, Mary and John Titus passed away together. Known for their strong union, generosity, and work hard and play hard mentality, we find comfort in knowing that after thirty-two years of marriage they never had to walk a day on earth without the other.
Mary, a Texas girl, was working in California on an assignment when John, a California boy, captured her heart and persuaded her to move to the San Francisco Bay Area. On February 14, 1987, John and Mary were married in Dallas, Texas at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
John and Mary were both CPAs. John received his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and Mary received her MBA from Southern Methodist University. After they met, while both were working for the Associates, John and Mary went on to be CFOs for various companies in the dotcom and healthcare industries. They were a dynamic and zealous couple who lived their lives to the fullest.
John was a brilliant, creative, and compassionate leader, peer, and friend serving as CFO of Healthcare Highways from 2017 to early 2019 before transitioning to EVP of Repricity, a new company forming under the Healthcare Highways family of brands. Mary was owner and manager of the couple’s business, Comprehensive Sleep Medicine.
John and Mary were constantly devoted to each other and were blessed with three children who loved their parents deeply: Jacqueline Titus, Trent Titus, and Lauren Titus. The couple and their three children lived in California until 2004 when they moved to Dallas, Texas.
They remained active throughout their lives and loved traveling together. They were certified scuba divers for many years and later, after earning their sailing captain licenses, they sailed to the British Virgin Islands, Italy and Greece surrounded by their children and dear friends. John and Mary also loved playing golf and tennis together, constantly making sure their kids knew the scores of their last match. As empty nesters, they truly loved the community at Bent Tree Country Club and were actively involved in both the tennis and golf community. John was also an avid University of Texas Longhorn fan and made sure to guide his oldest daughter to be a double Longhorn just like him.
Mary and John were devoted parents, loyal friends, and loved mentoring others. John is also survived by his sister Linda York, a niece and nephew.
While a funeral was not John and Mary’s style, the family will be hosting a celebration of life on July 21, 2019, at 3pm, at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, where they started their 32 year adventure together. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society in John and Mary’s honor. After losing their parents to cancer, this was an important organization to John and Mary.
