Eugene Joseph Fox, known to all as Joey, 58, was born October 22, 1959 in Memphis, TN and passed away on October 1st 2018 in Dallas, TX. Born to Eugene and Dolores, Joey grew up in Monroe, LA; however, he claimed to be from South Dakota. Joey graduated from Northeastern Louisiana University in 1981 before serving as a Captain in the United States Army. After completing his service in the US Army, Joey joined the Dallas Police Department in 1984, DPD Academy Class 186. He served honorably for 27 years, with a break to attend Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor. His list of academic and professional accolades are too extensive to list. Throughout his illustrious career at DPD he served in numerous positions, to include SWAT, hostage negotiator, expert witness, and finally a Defensive Tactics Instructor for the Dallas Police Academy.
Outside of his career, Joey was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved to tend to his backyard and watch the Dallas Mavericks, when not planning his next overseas trip. Joey loved to travel, logging 18 countries with friends and family. Ultimately, he devoted his free time to the City of Dallas serving its citizens selflessly. Whether reviewing case files, hitting the range, or running the Cotton Bowl, Joey aimed to be mentally and physically ready for any task.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, his sons Matt (wife Meagan), Brett, Chris (wife Gabby), Kurt (wife Tori), Conrad (wife Erica), his step-son Matthew Jacocks (wife Melanie), his step-daughters Natalie Mathis (husband Nick), Amber Thompson (husband Josh), and Tessa Jacocks. Joey’s grandchildren, his greatest joys, Jaxon, Jetton, Levi and Hailey Fox as well as Lola, Wyatt, Liam, Alice, Alani and Jack – who will always remember him as “PoPo”, the best grandfather ever.
