Joey was born on October 21, 1960, to Linda and Don Carter in Dallas, Texas. In his youth, he graduated from Coppell High School, where he enjoyed playing football, bull riding and singing in the First Baptist Church of Dallas choir. He graduated from Baylor University in 1983 and his college years were filled with many memories of his KOT fraternity, as well as Baylor Sing, including the infamous KOT turn. Baylor provided him with lifelong friendships and the tools to be a successful business leader. Joey was a businessman, avid traveler, pilot and loved boating with his family. He was able to give back and support his community through his active participation on numerous organizational boards. He passionately helped to lead his family’s company, Home Interiors & Gifts, Inc., eventually serving as CEO. His charismatic speaking abilities and persistent work ethic contributed to his exceptional direct selling abilities and success within that industry. Joey loved watching sports with his family, cheering for his favorite teams and was consistently the proudest cheerleader at his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
He was predeceased by his father, Donald J. Carter. He is survived by his wife of five years, Ivonka Carter; his mother Linda Carter; his brother Ron Carter and wife Wanda; his sister Christi Urschel and husband Hal; his daughters Mary Elizabeth Carter-Kappes, Kimberley Hechtner and husband Michael, and Kathryn Heath and husband Dalton.
