Jose Mendez, aka Joe, 96, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. He was born in La Jolla, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Felix and Porfiria Mendez. Joe was raised in Mexico until he moved to Texas.
He married Margarita Alvarado in 1960 and the couple had four children. He was a cement finisher at APAC (Ashland Paving and Construction, Inc) where he worked for more than thirty years until his retirement.
In his spare time, Joe enjoyed taking morning walks, working in the garden, and tinkering with automobiles along with visiting with family and friends.
Loved ones will always remember him for taking long walks, feeding the neighborhood cats, and watering the lawn and flowers. Everyone will also recall how welcoming and engaging he was when they visited.
He is preceded in death by wife Margarita, his parents, and siblings.
He is survived by his daughter, Maria Mendez; son, Daniel and his wife Maria; son, Henry and his wife Mary; son, Luis and his wife Madeline; grandchildren Eric, Elyssa (Daniel’s), Nicholas, Cecilia (Henry’s); brother, Ricardo and his wife Santiaga, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A visitation for Joe will be held Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home and Crematory, 3050 N Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75247. A Rosary will occur 6:30 PM Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 3050 N Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75247. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur 10:00AM Friday, November 19, 2021 St. Mary of Carmel Catholic Church, 2900 Vilbig Rd, Dallas, Texas 75212. An interment will occur 11:30AM Friday, November 19, 2021 at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas 75220.
