Joe Louis Gonzales of Duncanville, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 17,2024. He was born in Littlefield, Texas on October 24, 1957 to the late Matias Marroquin Gonzales of Bishop, Texas and his wife Elvira Hernandez Gonzales. Joe moved to “Oak Cliff” with his family as a young boy. He was raised there with his siblings and graduated from Sunset High School. He attended classes at North Lake College while working and went on to become certified to work in the telecommunications Industry, and eventually earning his way into management. He spent several years in New Orleans, LA. and traveled to other areas of the country honing his technical skills. Joe dedicated his free time to his son Matias as a Scout Leader at the Holy family Church in Irving Texas, participating in scouting camping trips, fundraisers, meetings, and various events inclusive of a trip to Colorado. This influence and training led his son to receiving the highest award of “Eagle Scout” while in High School. Joe also found time to coach football in the IBFA, Irving Boys Football Association, starting in Flag football all the way up to the 6th grade. He became the head coach for the Cougars and was essential in the training and development of these young boys. This also included raising money for the team to provide whatever was needed. Joe loved coaching and many of his team players remember how he nurtured and mentored them, and often provided transportation to and from practice and games. He is also remembered for the great year end banquets that the kids enjoyed. In his later years Joe loved being with his grandchildren. He spent many hours with them painting, gardening and being Papa Joe. They looked forward to seeing him every week for their art lessons. He also enjoyed his Yard Art hobby of making decorative yard art from recycled materials. He looked forward to giving these as gifts to so many he loved. Joe was a natural with his hands and creativity. He could go into a yard, mow, plant, water and do such a beautiful job on landscaping and make it seem effortless and he loved it. Joe will be remembered for his kind, and giving heart and his great wit and sense of humor! He touched many individuals in his lifetime. Joe is preceded in death by his father Matias M. Gonzales, Jr., his brother Matias M. Gonzales, his nephews, Timothy Ryan Vega, and Christian Vega. Joe is survived by his mother Elvira Gonzales, his son Matias J. Gonzales and his wife Amy(daughter-in-law), his grandchildren Avery, Matias and Christian Gonzales, and Matias mother Patricia Scroggins, his sister Anna Vega and her husband Tim Vega, his sister Mary Gilley and her husband Kevin Gilley. His nieces Amber Umfleet-Pineda and her husband Stephen Pineda, Autum Love and her husband Jonathan Love, Justin Gilley and his wife Kacy Gilley, his childhood friend, companion and caregiver Lisa Haney, and great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
