He was born on July 14, 1935 in Essex, Missouri to a farming family and left at the age of 16 to work for Hart’s Bakery in nearby Sikeston, Mo. He once joked in a Baking Industry magazine interview that he “started at the top and worked his way down, from cleaning skylights to sweeping the floors.” However, before that career was over he owned the business that eventually produced numerous bakery products for national accounts coast-to-coast. He was a resident of Duncanville for over 35 years and a proud partner with his three sons in a business they began there over 33 years ago.
Joe met the love of his life, Wanda Marie Wyatt, when they were 18 years old and they went on to have three sons, Jim, Steve and Gary. He and his loving wife Wanda would have celebrated their 66th anniversary on the 21st of January.
He was predeceased by his parents and four sisters. He is survived by wife Wanda, son Jim and his wife Jeannette, son Steve, son Gary and his wife Beverly, along with six grandchildren, Nathan, Melissa (Brian), Haley (Clint), Lauren, Jacob (Larsen) and Connor (Alex). Also, seven great grandchildren, Cade, Carson, Caleb, Briley, Rowan, Scout and Kessler, who were the absolute lights of his life.
Joe was a lifelong Mason who loved hunting, fishing, boating, golf, traveling and most of all, having fun and making others laugh with his clever wit and boundless humor. He will be missed terribly by his family and his many relatives and friends.
