Joann grew up on a farm where the summers were hot and the winters were cold with plenty of work to be done. Joann was the first in her family to attend college, and attended Oklahoma State University where she graduated in 1955 with honors and a bachelors degree in home economics. She was a proud sister of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
After graduation, she began a career at the Veterans Administration hospital in Dallas as a dietician. In 1958, after a brief courtship, she married the love of her life, Turner Elijah Hasty. Their first son, Edward Paul was born after they had been married several years. One year later, Wayne Turner was born.
Joann raised both boys in Dallas where she was very active in their activities, the PTA, and with the Jesuit Mom’s group. Joann also had an active social life with her many friends. She often told the boys her long phone calls with her girlfriends was her ‘social work’.
Once Turner retired, they enjoyed traveling the world. Joann was also an ardent shopper, with her favorite stores at Northpark mall. She took to ‘exercising’ by walking the mall several times a week.
Joann is survived by her 2 sons, Paul & Wayne, and 3 grandchildren, Anna, Mary Beth and Shannon Hasty.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother.
Joann was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joanna will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Rita Catholic Community, 12521 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75244.
