JoAnn Mentesana

After graduating from Henderson County Junior College, she attended Southern Methodist University.  JoAnn’s career was a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit, her tenacity and grit. JoAnn began as a fashion buyer for JCPenney in the seventies making monthly trips to New York and Miami.  She was a woman working in a man’s world and earned their respect with her impeccable buying skills and business savvy.  After leaving JCPenney, she remained in the fashion industry in a variety of roles. While working at Clockwise Fashions in Dallas, she met the love of her life, Frank Mentesana. JoAnn was known for her brilliant mind, great sense of humor and courageous spirit. She and her husband, Frank, owned several women’s clothing boutiques until she pivoted her career to spend more time at home with her children. She founded a successful janitorial company and maid service.  Recently, she worked closely with her husband and son in their real estate appraisal company, which brought her great joy. 

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clettie Belle Teel, and three siblings, William Fred Teel, Leslie Don Teel and Johnnie Belle Middlebrooks of Athens.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, Frank, three children, Felicia Casstevens and her husband, Jay of Garland, daughter, Bridgette Mentesana of Sachse, son Frank Mentesana, Jr. and wife, Masha of Sachse, granddaughter, Christi Getz and husband, Chad of Las Cruces, NM and granddaughter, Isabella Jones of Sachse and her future grandson, John Henry Constantine, whom she was so looking forward to meeting.  She is also survived by her beloved Chihuahua, Tinkerbelle. 

JoAnn had so much wisdom and shared her thoughts with her loved ones and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  

Visitation will be held Monday, January 16, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, located at 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX, 75225.  A graveside service will take place at Owen Cemetery in Athens, TX, Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, at 2 p.m.
