Joan was one of ten children and grew up in Dallas, attending Dallas public schools.
She met and married James Carter Ray Sr. in 1970 and two children were born to this union. They later divorced and she married Charles Allen, who she also later divorced. She relocated to Colorado and lived in the Denver suburb of Aurora for 16 years before returning home in 2008.
Joan worked various jobs, but her longest career was in Home Health care as a Home Health Care Specialist.
Joan had a passion for cooking and surrounding herself with friends and family. She had a devout love for her grandchildren and great grandson. Joan loved to socialize and meet new people and would always strike up a conversation regardless of the person or place and leave with a new friend. Joan loved watching westerns and sports, she was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys football fan and often stated “Win, Lose or Tie she was a Cowboy fan until she die”!
She was family to everyone she met and truly will be missed by a multitude of family and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her mother and father, her son Anthony Davis, brothers Luther Holton Jr., LC Holton Sr. and sisters Kay Davis- Dean and Alice Marie Griffin.
She is survived by her children James Carter Ray Jr. of Aurora CO, Adrian (Antwon) Ray of Rowlett TX , grandchildren Taylor (Dezmon) Dilworth of Rowlett TX, Bryson Ray of Rowlett TX, Gabrielle Monique Ray of Aurora CO, JamesAnthony Carter Ray of Aurora CO, and great grandson Zyon Ray of Rowlett TX, brother Louis (Ramona) Boyd of Ferris TX, sisters Jerry Ellis of Dallas TX, Ruby Davis-Mays of Lewisville TX, Melody (Charles) Hawkins of Dallas TX, nieces Lakisha Davis- Moultrie (often referred to as daughter she never had) Atlanta GA, Sharhonda Davis Dallas Texas, Kim Davis, Dallas Texas, Robbie Davis Glen Heights TX, Debra Pope, VA, Dora Kay Rogers Aurora CO, Jerry Rogers Aurora CO, Robin Boyd Anaheim CA, nephews Rodney Davis Lewisville TX, LC Holton Jr. Dallas TX, Ricky Holton, Denver CO, Roderick Hamlett, Abilene TX, Stephen Boyd, CA and adopted God daughter Djuana Cynthia McBride.
Joan will be remembered fondly by a host of family (Great & Great, Great nieces & nephews) and friends, and they will carry her love with them always.
A visitation for Joan will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Singing Hills Funeral Home, 6221 UNIVERSITY HILLS BLVD, DALLAS, TX 75241. A celebration of life will occur Friday, November 22, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Singing Hills Funeral Home.
