On Friday, March 3, 2023, JoAnne Howse of Dallas, Texas, was called home to heaven after 90 years of demonstrating God’s love for all that she encountered. She was surrounded at her home by many of those she counted most dear, her children and their families. JoAnne’s love of her life, Wayne Fredrick Howse, preceded her to heaven in 2020. JoAnne is survived by three siblings, Charles Norman of Lexington, Kentucky, Nancy Taylor of Ashville, North Carolina, and Don Norman of Naples, Florida. In her own family she is survived by her son and wife, Gregory and Barbara Howse of Melissa Texas, daughter Lynn and her husband Daryl Mullin of Dallas, Texas, and daughter Sharon and her husband Glenn Pate of Plano, Texas. Her grandchildren, who she loved passionately ,are Leslie Beatty of Buckley, Washington, Carisa Copeland of Sherman, Texas, Jackson Pate of McKinney, Texas, Allie Frankenfeld of Dallas, Texas, and Katie Mullin of Savannah, Georgia. JoAnne had the joy of experiencing three great- grandchildren, Carter Copeland, Sherman, Texas, Leona Betty, Buckley, Washington and Red Frankenfeld of Dallas, Texas.
JoAnne was born on January 4, 1933, to Charles and Willie Norman, growing up in Asheville North Carolina. The love of those mountains was a memory she always cherished. As she became a young woman, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and He began a good work in her that we who knew her experienced. After graduating from high school, JoAnne moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where she met the love of her life, Wayne Howse. They were married November 28, 1952, in Alexandria, Virginia, where Wayne was stationed at Ft. Belvior. JoAnne and Wayne were married for 67 years.
The couple moved a number of times in the Northeast U.S. as JoAnne set about becoming a homemaker, caring for her three children and husband. The family moved to Dallas in July 1965, landing at Love Field for JoAnne’s first taste of a Texas summer heat wave. Once in Dallas, JoAnne and her family grew deep roots here, becoming active members of Park Cities Baptist Church. JoAnne cherished her role as a mother, wife and homemaker demonstrating Proverbs 31:26-29 – “Her words are sensible, and her advice is thoughtful. She takes good care of her family and is never lazy. Her children praise her great pride, her husband says, “there are many good women, but you (JoAnne) are the best” (CEV). As her children matured and began their own families, JoAnne worked for Visiting Nurses Association of Texas focused on Meals on Wheels, and a local psychologist. As a member of Park Cities, JoAnne was a long-time servant in the nursery caring for, holding and rocking these young ones. Those in the nursery got a glimpse of the love that JoAnne showered on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, praying for them every day. JoAnne’s devotion and love was on full display as she faithfully cared for her husband, Wayne, through his time of declining health.
On March 10, 2023, a memorial service for JoAnne will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home (7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas) at 1:00 pm with the committal following the memorial service. The family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Park Cities Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.
