Jimmy Dock Maddox of Dallas, Texas, died after a long decline with Alzheimer’s disease on February 11, 2023, at the age of 76. A longtime resident of the Dallas area since 1976, he and his family lived in Richardson for many years. Mr. Maddox was hired by the Northern District of Texas’ Federal Probation and Parole. Mr. Maddox worked for the Northern District for 28 years. When he retired in 2004, he was an Assistant Deputy working in the downtown federal building. After retirement, Mr. Maddox continued to work with various federal agencies and volunteered his time as a CASA advocate. Mr. Maddox had a strong belief in work integrity and loyalty. Jimmy never met a stranger. He was an enthusiastic conversationalist and had friends near and wide.
Jimmy managed the family’s farm near Mart, Texas, and enjoyed spending many weekends there with his grandchildren and his five grown children with his wife of over 50 years, Sandra. For the last ten years, he and Sandra resided in Dallas near Lovers Lane.
Born in Kermit, Texas, on January 27, 1947, to Lovel Devoe Maddox and Jean Pritchard, Mr. Maddox lived in several oil and gas camps and towns before moving to Midland, Texas, where he graduated from Lee High School in 1965. Mr. Maddox enlisted in the Army Reserves and later graduated from Baylor University in 1972. He was very proud of his college degree as he was the first in his family to attend college. Although he was successful in his career and outside interests, his greatest pride was his five children and their personal and professional endeavors. Ever present in his life was a strong spirituality; he was ordained as a Baptist minister, later converting to Methodist and becoming a member of First United Methodist Church Richardson for over 40 years.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his father, Lovel Devoe Maddox and sister, Sue Jones. He is survived by his 94-year-old mother, Jean Bernheim of Shreveport; sister Shelia and husband Randy Hamacker; wife, Sandra Davis Maddox; children Brian and wife Keri Maddox; Jeffrey and wife Marci Maddox; Amy and husband Michael Patyk; Christopher and wife Michelle Maddox; Amber and husband Steven Klimczak. Grandchildren include: Jacob, Morgan, and Jackson; Davis, Travis, and Bailey; Adelaide and Harrison; Elliott and Elizabeth; Hallie and Aubrey. The family will forever cherish the sense of family and faith Jimmy instilled.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, February 17th at noon at the First United Methodist Church Richardson, in the sanctuary. Graveside services will be in the Mart, Texas, Cemetery, South Johnson Street on Saturday, February 18th, at 2:00 pm. Immediately after family will receive guests at 1213 Texas Avenue, Mart ,Texas. Memorial gifts can be made to the First United Methodist Church Richardson or UTSW Center for Alzheimer’s Disease. Arrangements are under the direction of Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas.
