He was born at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA on August 18, 1944 to Max Harlow Brown and Edith Avis Hendley Brown. He graduated from St. John’s College High School, Washington DC in 1962 and attended Villanova University. An all-around athlete, Jerry played football and baseball but excelled as a pitcher and played for the Houston Colt 45’s Baseball Organization. After joining the DC Air National Guard, his unit was activated to Vietnam where he taught English to Vietnamese Pilots. As the humanitarian crisis intensified, Jerry sponsored a family out of Vietnam to the US.
Jerry began his career in the banking industry, where he met Cathy. They later married in November 1979 in Northport, NY. In 1984, Jerry and Cathy moved to Plano, TX with their two daughters, Dana Julie and Erica Jeri.
He worked for BancTec for 43 years where he traveled to numerous countries and met many lifelong friends.
Jerry furthered his love for genealogy as a Registrar for the SAR. He was a member of the St. John’s College High School Alumni, Vietnam Vets, Magna Charta Dames and Barons, and Association of Professional Ball Players of America.
He leaves behind his daughters Amy (Shawn) Bornstein, Dana (Michael) Siler, and Erica (Tarrance) Hanible; grandchildren Dylan Rowe, Kylen and Jayla Hanible; brothers Jim (Hacy) Brown and John (Cindy) Brown; sisters Jeanne Marie Brown, Judy Brown, and Janet (Rodney) Allen; sister-in-law Amy (Ben) Leuenberger, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Avis Brown; brother-in-law, Jerry G Brown; nephews, Steve Brown and Aaron White.
A memorial service will be held at 10:15 AM on Friday, February 24th, Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
We will celebrate his life on Saturday, February 25th at Times Ten Cellars from 1:30 – 5pm, 6324 Prospect Ave, Dallas, TX 75214.
