Jeffrey (Jeff) Jordan was born in Miami, Florida on May 4, 1963. He was the first-born son of Marva and William Jordan. Jeff was also the first-born grandson of his paternal grandparents, Homer and Elizabeth Jordan, quickly becoming the center of their world – and they were just as much the center of his.
As he grew from a wide-eyed boy into a sharp, quick-witted young man, so too did his love for his hometown Liberty City in Miami – which shaped his character and filled his life with unforgettable memories. He carried special pride for his alma mater, Jackson High School, where he was a proud member of the drill and track teams. And if you were lucky enough to hear Jeff recount those glory days, you would have heard that when Jackson’s drill team hit the field, the entire stadium was on their feet. According to Jeff, they weren’t just the best in the city – they were the best, period. Full stop.
After high school, Jeff left Miami and headed to Tampa Technical Institute for two years, where he earned his Associate degree in Electronics. Jeff immediately put his skills to work, taking a position on Ascension Island, a British territory in the South Atlantic Ocean. Ironically enough, this position would have been practically impossible for Jeff to take just a few decades later, given his infamous feud with long-distance flying. Yet, Jeff’s years working on the island would ultimately be an experience he recalled fondly and always appreciated.
Eventually, Jeff returned stateside, heading to Tallahassee to earn his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at Florida A&M University (FAMU). It was here that Jeff formed many of his closest lifelong friendships and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Michelle Mathious.
On May 6, 2000, Jeff and Michelle married, settling in Atlanta, Georgia to build their life together. Just three years and one day later, they welcomed their first son, Mylan, and in less than a year they were excited to learn their second son, McKinley, was on the way. Jeff would relocate one last time, with his family, to Dallas, Texas where they built a beautiful life and village of dear friends and supportive colleagues at AT&T.
Despite the physical distance from his Florida and Georgia roots, Jeff never missed a chance to stay connected with the family and friends from back home, be it over a round of golf or an intensely heated debate about sports. Golf was his sanctuary – he loved it to his core and was just as passionate about the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, Miami Hurricanes, and Florida Panthers. Whether it was the highly anticipated annual Traveler’s Golf Invitational amongst his friends or attending FAMU football games, even hosting countless weekend takeovers for Dallas Cowboy fans (despite their opposing loyalties), Jeff always made time for the people he loved – and they did the same for him.
But Jeff was more than just a friend – he was a giver through and through. Almost everyone who knew him has a personal story of his selflessness and generosity – whether he was graciously sacrificing his time coaching youth sports and mentoring, going out of his way to help, or making sure you felt valued.
In his courageous fight against cancer, it was Jeff’s turn to be loved on and cared for. And for a man accustomed to giving, it was hard for him to be the care receiver, but the unwavering love and support of his village – his family and friends near and far – was a testament to the profound impact Jeff had on many who knew him.
On Friday, March 21, 2025, Jeff went home peacefully at the age of 61, surrounded by his loving family.
Jeff’s cherished memory lives on through his devoted wife, Michelle Mathious Jordan; his two sons, Mylan and McKinley Jordan; his beloved mother, Marva White; his adored mother-in-love, Mary Crosby; his sister, Lisa Robinson; his two brothers, James Rhodes and William (April) Stuckey; his two sisters-in-love, Monita Bradley and Shanon Crosby; his nieces and nephews: Latoya (Terrance) Jones, Shekinah Rhodes, Victory Rhodes, Jedidiah Rhodes, Dontray Stuckey, Kiara Parrish, Yiesha Floyd, Myles McKinnon, and Mason Bradley; and his great-nephew, Jace Jones. He is also survived by countless cousins, and close friends who loved him dearly.
