Jean Lowry Hayes

Jean Lowry Hayes, 89, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on August 23, 2024. Born in Mt Vernon, Texas, she developed her strong Christian faith at a young age and was an active and devoted member of Northway Christian Church in Dallas for decades.

Jean graduated from Mt Vernon High School in 1953 and Southern Methodist University in 1956. She was a faithful sister of the Chi Omega sorority, dedicating herself to its principles and causes both during her time at SMU and as a lifetime member. She worked as a Home Economist but devoted most of her life to being a loving and wonderful mother and homemaker.

She is survived by her loving husband Jere Hayes, and the beautiful family they grew and cultivated together over 67 years. Jean's legacy includes three sons, Steve, Stewart and Scott Hayes, and three treasured daughters-in-law Jinger, Susan and Cameron Hayes, who each brought some much-welcomed feminine relief to her "son centric" life. Her grandchildren include Jordan Neve, Camille Mercer, Caroline Sutton, Chris Hayes, Tyler Hayes, Emily Allday, Nathan Hayes, Sarah Hayes plus 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by Leonard Lowry, her brother, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Lowry, and her parents, L.D. and Fayrine Lowry.

Jean's life was a testament to her enduring kindness, unwavering composure and commitment to her faith and family. She will be remembered for her strength, faith, pragmatism and, above all, integrity. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. The world is a better place because of Jean.

Services to celebrate Jean's life will be held on Wednesday morning, September 4, at 10:00 at Sparkman Hillcrest located at 7405 W Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, September 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest.
